Sampaguita, is the Philippines National Flower and is also known as the Philippines Jasmine and Arabian Jasmine. The flower signifies love, devotion, purity, fidelity, and divine hope. It is a tradition in the Philippines to have the sampaguita flowers threaded into a necklace and because of its beautiful smell, it is commonly used as necklaces for special guests, religious statues and celebrations and these are often seen being sold on the streets by sampaguita vendors.
 
The name sampaguita is derived from the Filipino phrase "sumpa kita" meaning "I promise you".
