Rosa Sevilla Kimona
  • Rosa Sevilla Kimona

Rosa Sevilla de Alvero, born on 4th March 1879 in Tondo, Manila, was a Filipino activist, educator, and journalist who advocated for women's suffrage in the Philippines.

Sevilla founded the Instituto de Mujeres in Manila at age 21, which became one of the first women's schools in the Philippines. In her mid-30s, she led a movement in 1916 for Filipino women to secure the right to vote, founding the Liga Nacional de Damas Filipinas. It was in 1937 when women were able to gain the right after a referendum.

Sevilla was a part of the editorial staff for Antonio Luna's newspaper, La Independencia and later became the editor for Spanish daily La Vanguardia, and established The Woman's Outlook, a magazine published by the General Federation of Women's Clubs of the Philippines.

Rosa Sevilla Kimona is a statement piece featuring big puffed flowy sleeves just like the kimonas worn by our ancestors. This beautiful kimona is made from cocoonwari fabric with cream floral embroidery and scalloped hem. The embroidery is handfinished and embroidered by our artisans using a sewing machine. This TERNO has cotton lining for added comfort and embellished with a pearl button on the back and with semi-cropped length.

This is available in one variant / color only.

    • How to care for your TERNO

      1. Hand wash is the way to go!
        - Use mild detergent mixed with water. Soak for a few minutes. Do not scrub or squeeze. Hang and air dry but away from direct heat or sunlight.
      2. Stains? No bleach please.
        - Spot cleaning the stained area by dabbing a soft wet cloth. Use a mild detergent in treating stains. Bleaching may cause damage to fabric and embroidery.
      3. Ironing.
        - To remove creases, you can either steam iron or dry iron in the lowest temperature setting. You can iron inside out to protect the embroidery designs from getting damaged.
      4. Hand, cover and store
        - Hang your TERNO using a clothes hanger. Cover in breathable clothes dust bag and hang in wardobe without crush storing or piling heavier clothing or items on top on in between.
