    Purificacion "Pura" Villanueva Kalaw was a Filipina beauty queen, feminist, journalist, and writer. Born in the town of Arevalo, Iloilo on 27 August 1886. 

     

    Pura is known for her works organizing a suffrage group, the Asociacion Feminista Ilongga in 1906. Her efforts led to the first suffrage bill reaching the Philippine Assembly in 1907. She has written and edited women's pages and articles in known publications during her time and also became the president of the Women's Club of Manila.

     

    In 1908, at age 22, Pura Villanueva became the first "Queen of the Manila Carnival. 

     

    Pura Kalaw Cropped Top TERNO is made from cocoonwari fabric with cream embroidery details on the front and sleeves. The embroidery is handfinished using a sewing machine. This TERNO has cotton lining for added comfort and embellished with full buttons on the back and with cropped length.

    • How to care for your TERNO

      1. Hand wash is the way to go!
        - Use mild detergent mixed with water. Soak for a few minutes. Do not scrub or squeeze. Hang and air dry but away from direct heat or sunlight.
      2. Stains? No bleach please.
        - Spot cleaning the stained area by dabbing a soft wet cloth. Use a mild detergent in treating stains. Bleaching may cause damage to fabric and embroidery.
      3. Ironing.
        - To remove creases, you can either steam iron or dry iron in the lowest temperature setting. You can iron inside out to protect the embroidery designs from getting damaged.
      4. Hand, cover and store​​​​​​​
        - Hang your TERNO using a clothes hanger. Cover in breathable clothes dust bag and hang in wardobe without crush storing or piling heavier clothing or items on top on in between.
