Perlas ng Silangan Jusi Barong
  • Perlas ng Silangan Jusi Barong

Perlas ng Silangan (Pearl of the East) was originally in Spanish, Perla de Oriente (Pearl of the Orient). This was first mentioned by Father Juan J. Delgado, a Jesuit missionary and historian who wrote the book La Historia General Sacro-Profana, Política y Natural de las Islas de Poniente llamadas Filipinas (The General Sacred-Profane, Political and Natural History of the Western Islands called the Philippines), where he referred the city of Manila as Pearl of the Orient.

Perlas ng Silangan was popularized by Dr Jose Rizal in his last poem Mi Ultimo Adios, saying the Philippines is a Perla de Oriente.

His exact words were "región del sol querida, Perla del mar de oriente, nuestro perdido Edén!", which means "treasured region of the sun, Pearl of the sea of the Orient, our lost Eden!" (translation by Lozada). You will find this in the first part of the poem.

Perlas ng Silangan Jusi Barong is part of the TERNO by TCG's new "Alab ng Puso" collection in celebration of the 125th Philippines Independence Day on 12th June 2023.

This barong is made with pinya jusi fabric and features the three stars and a sun embroidery design. Embroidered through sewing machine and tailored in Lumban, Laguna by our partner local artisans, this barong is definitely an elegant choice for both formal and semi-formal occasions.

    • How to care for your BARONG

      1. Hand wash is the way to go!
        - Use mild detergent mixed with water. Soak for a few minutes. Do not scrub or squeeze. Hang and air dry but away from direct heat or sunlight.
      2. Stains? No bleach please.
        - Spot cleaning the stained area by dabbing a soft wet cloth. Use a mild detergent in treating stains. Bleaching may cause damage to fabric and embroidery.
      3. Ironing.
        - To remove creases, you can either steam iron or dry iron in the lowest temperature setting. You can iron inside out to protect the embroidery designs from getting damaged.
      4. Hand, cover and store
        - Hang your TERNO using a clothes hanger. Cover in breathable clothes dust bag and hang in wardobe without crush storing or piling heavier clothing or items on top on in between.
