Maria Orosa Ladies Barong
  • Maria Orosa Ladies Barong

María Orosa e Ylagan born on 29th November 1892 in Taal, Batangas is commonly known in the Philippines as the inventor of banana ketchup. Orosa was a Filipina food technologist, pharmaceutical chemist, humanitarian and a war heroine.

As a food scientist, she sought ways to reduce the Philippines' dependence on imported food, pioneering new ways to use local products. During World War II, Orosa joined Marking's Guerrillas to fight for Philippines freedom. She invented over 700 recipes during her lifetime, including Soyalac and Darak, which saved thousands of lives during the war. She also invented a process for canning goods for the guerrilla warriors fighting for the liberation of the Philippines. Without her food inventions, thousands of people would have died in internment camps, hospitals, and on the streets. (Source: Wikipedia)

    • How to care for your TERNO

      1. Hand wash is the way to go!
        - Use mild detergent mixed with water. Soak for a few minutes. Do not scrub or squeeze. Hang and air dry but away from direct heat or sunlight.
      2. Stains? No bleach please.
        - Spot cleaning the stained area by dabbing a soft wet cloth. Use a mild detergent in treating stains. Bleaching may cause damage to fabric and embroidery.
      3. Ironing.
        - To remove creases, you can either steam iron or dry iron in the lowest temperature setting. You can iron inside out to protect the embroidery designs from getting damaged.
      4. Hand, cover and store
        - Hang your TERNO using a clothes hanger. Cover in breathable clothes dust bag and hang in wardobe without crush storing or piling heavier clothing or items on top on in between.
